This month we're holding an empty bowls fundraiser. What is empty bowls I hear you say? Empty Bowls is a national movement let by artists and restaurants who come together and raise money for different causes. Artists donate handmade bowls, and you purchase the bowl and receive a meal in it. The price of your purchase is then donated to the cause. Everyone wins, you get a hand made bowl, a meal, and donate to a cause all in one go.
While the fundraisers typically support food related causes, we wanted to recognize AAPI Heritage Month and support a couple of organizations in need of help at this time: GiveIndia and Asian Americans Advancing Justice. GiveIndia is working to support health care infrastructure and provide cash support to families struggling after the loss of a loved one. Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) is a national affiliation of five leading organizations advocating for the civil and human rights of Asian Americans and other underserved communities.
Before COVID Empty Bowls events were usually held at an artist's studio with food donated from a local restaurant, but since we're still limiting gatherings we're doing things a little differently. Our studio team and members have donated bowls to be purchased, and we've partnered with 2 different restaurants where you can redeem your meal.
For DTLA: You can purchase a bowl in store at the ROW DTLA location, and then head over to Pikuniko between May 22 and June 5th for a bowl of their delicious Egg-Drop Soup.
For Santa Monica: We've partnered with Kye's Feel Good Food, you can buy your bowl from their Santa Monica location and order any bowl on their menu.
Our community of artists have donated some really lovely bowls, and if you'd like to be involved you can! Just shoot us an email to coordinate.
